Midwife Protest March

Today we went on a march to protest midwifes getting paid better and to change their work conditions. It was really awesome and as we walked we carried balloons and signs like “In a world of Davids, be a Helen”. As we walked up we chanted and shouted. It was so cool. Afterwards we went for brunch and I gave my balloons to this cute red headed baby.
We are going to sail to Great Barrier Island soon and I promise I will update soon.

Best wishes,
Iris:)

    Iris

I am very proud of you for protesting against the poor pay and working conditions of NZ midwives in the vitally important work they do. I suspected you three might have joined the nationwide protest today. What a lot of variety you are having on your adventure .. Meeting relatives in Gisborne, spearing fish, walking around the volcanic rim of Mayor Island, meeting a shark, and now being in a marina in the nation’s largest city .. And you have accomplished that in just a few days .. Who knows what the next weeks and months will bring?

Go, Iris! We are with you all the way.

    Lots of love

  2. I’m very pleased you had a good protest experience Iris! I took Meg to the Women’s day march in Wellington last year and it reminded me of my childhood in Auckland where we marched down Queen St every Friday night about one thing or another. The biggest of those marches was one of the Spring Bok tour ones where it was SO big people were arriving at the post office at the bottom of Queen Street while there were still people leaving Aotea Square at the top. 100,000 + people! xxx

  3. Oh BTW… Am I being thick? Which David and which Helen? Please explain!

      Hey Bek!
Your not being thick at all! Mum had to explain it to Dad and I as well. David Clark is the health minister and Helen was the priminister that made it possible for midwives to practice. I’m really glad that you took Meg to the march in Wellington! Did you make a sign?
